Creative Activities: A Plan for the Week


 

As we have mentioned before, St. Anthony’s have been chosen to be involved with the Creative Schools Initiative.
Here are some suggestions for each day for the coming week!

Creative Activities: Developed by Naomi Cahill

 

Junior and Senior Infants

 

Day 1: Drama

Person 1: Let’s fly a kite (mimes flying a kite).

Person 2: Yes, let’s (mimes flying a kite).

Person 2: Let’s bake a cake (mimes baking a cake).

Person 1: Yes, let’s (mimes baking a cake).

This continues with a new action each time.

 

Day 2: Art

Find some odd socks. Use them to make puppets!

 

Day 3: Music

Close you eyes and listen to some happy music. Tell someone what you imagined.

 

Day 4: Dance

Dance around the kitchen to your favourite music.

 

Day 5: Creative Writing

Say three sentences out loud. Each one should have one of these words in it: happy, sun and friends.

 

First and Second Class

 

Day 1: Drama

Person 1 says a word.

Person 2 says a word that reminds them of the first word and so on…

For Example:

Person 1: Bird

Person 2: Fly

Person 1: Plane (This continues).

 

Day 2: Art

Draw a picture of something you can find in your house. Show it to people and see if they can guess what it is. If they can’t, give them some clues (e.g. You can’t find it in the kitchen).

 

Day 3: Music

Close your eyes and listen to some happy music. Tell someone what you imagined.

 

Day 4: Dance

Dance around the kitchen to your favourite music.

 

Day 5: Creative Writing

Say three sentences out loud. Each one should have one of these words in it: happy, fun and today.

 

Third and Fourth Class:

 

Day 1: Drama

Person 1: Does an action (e.g. painting a picture).

Person 2: “What are you doing?”

Person 1: Doesn’t explain what they’re actually doing but instead what they would like Person 2 to do (e.g. fly a kite).

Person 2: Pretends to fly a kite. Person 1: “What are you doing?” and continue.

 

Day 2: Art

Draw a picture that includes: your favourite place, hobby, food and best friend.

 

Day 3: Music

Close your eyes and listen to some happy music. Tell someone what you imagined.

 

Day 4: Dance

Dance around the kitchen to your favourite music.

 

Day 5: Creative Writing

Write short story that includes the following words: mouse, tree, music and magic.

 

Fifth and Sixth Class

 

Day 1: Art

Make a costume for a character from your favourite book/film.

 

Day 2: Drama

Practice walking around the way your character would walk: Would he/she stand up straight? What kind of facial expressions would you expect? Does he/she have any habits?

 

Day 3: Music

Look up the soundtrack for your favourite film. Close your eyes, listen and imagine a new story.

 

Day 4: Dance

Dance around the kitchen to your favourite music.

 

Day 5: Creative Writing

Write three separate pieces of dialogue that are not related to each other. Then write a story including these pieces of dialogue.
