Games and Sport

We are very lucky at St. Anthony’s to be within walking distance of Douglas 25m. Swimming Pool. Formal swim lessons are offered to boys in 2nd., 3rd., 4th. and 5th. classes, on a twelve week block per year basis. Our swim teachers are qualified to Swim Ireland standard and all levels are catered for, from the beginner through to advanced stroke analysis and technique.

Each year a team is entered for The Irish Minor Schools Championship, and we have been quite successful with this in the past, with teams and individuals competing at national level.

We also run our own in-house Gala each Easter, open to boys from 3rd – 6th classes.

St Anthony’s School has its own school team drawn from the senior classes. The school team participates in a Cork Schools competition each year during the second term. Trials are held during the school day early in January.

Hockey coaching in basic skills and mini-games is done within the standards. The boys enjoy the sessions and will continue on this year.

Every year the school takes part in Cork School Sports which is held in Páirc Uí Caoimh during the last term. Preliminary races are held to select runners for the school team before this event. Each child in the school gets an opportunity to participate.
